Options to Promote Learning

Communication / Language

Option 1 (IG) Toddlers participate in a book sharing focused on different ways a young child shows he/she is happy.

Option 2 (IG) Toddlers briefly act out ways of showing we are happy as part of a book sharing.

Cognitive

Option 1 (IG) Toddlers explore holding water in their hands.

Option 2 (OO) A toddler practices filling a bottle with water by immersing it in a tub of water and pouring water from the bottle.

Option 3 (IG) Toddlers gain skills in manipulating a free-flowing material.

Self-Regulation

Option 1 (IG) Toddlers watch a caregiver stop moving his/her body, relax arms, and lower his/her head when music stops.

Option 2 (IG) Toddlers move their bodies to music and then practice stopping moving, relaxing arms, and lowering their heads when the music stops.

Social-Emotional

Option 1 (OO) A toddler explores pictures of babies’ facial expressions that show different feelings.

Option 2 (OO) A toddler is invited to make facial expressions that communicate several specific emotions.

Physical / Health

Option 1 (OO) A toddler practices manipulating pieces of a puzzle that has knobs.

Option 2 (OO) A toddler manipulates pieces of a chunky puzzle.
